Studies show that about 2% of adults in India are trained to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) during sudden cardiac arrest. This is significantly below the 62% target set by the American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care (AHA-ECC).
Most cardiac arrests occur outside of hospitals, primarily in the home, making bystander intervention crucial. Bystander CPR is essential in improving survival rates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. Although the concept of widespread bystander CPR emerged in 1972, only a small fraction of the population has received the necessary training.
